Attis proudly announce their delivery of a key element of a port’s development

The work Attis has undertaken on a traffic management plan for an international port has become pivotal to the its strategic long-term redevelopment, according to one of the port’s directors. Attis were originally engaged to ‘find’ more parking spaces for lorry trailers, and in doing so developed a three-stage development plan that not only delivered additional spaces, but substantially increased traffic throughput through the use of existing and planned infrastructure.

Portsmouth International Port is a busy and vital link in freight and passengers between the UK and France. As part of its ambitious future planning, the port recognized the requirement to improve traffic flow and parking requirements within its boundaries. The port also has ambitious plans for environmental sustainability, and any improvements needed to be mindful of this. The resultant report that Attis created demonstrated a three-phased approach, with each phase being complimentary to the one before. Beginning with simple adjustments to the day-to-day operations, the plan culminated with a radical redevelopment of the port’s access and egress routes to the national road network.

Each phase was carefully considered in line with the other phases so that each built on the development of the previous phase. This allows for a progressive, planned approach which can be budgeted for over time without impacting on the port or its customers. By maximizing the use of existing port infrastructure throughout the development, Attis were able to demonstrate considerable returns on investment for this crucial piece of the UK’s transportation framework.

The traffic management plan now forms an inherent part of the Portsmouth International Port’s master plan to provide one of the most efficient and sustainable ports in the country. And as part of the Shaping Portsmouth alliance, Attis are proud to be contributors to this impressive proposal.

Attis have undertaken a great deal of work for the port as principal designers for a number of infrastructure projects, and their knowledge of the port and its ambitions helped to secure this important traffic management project. As always, Attis have exceeded expectations and are delighted that their work is now central to the Port’s future development strategy.
