The first day of the 2023 Screwball Rally started early at 04:30! On to the ferry at Dover and a chance to catch up with all the other splendid teams in the rally. The first step was a visit to the museum at Dunkirk which vividly portrays the appalling conditions suffered by the British and French forces as they awaited rescue from the beach in 1940. A walk out to the beach itself offered a chance to witness the wide open vista and to walk, humbled, in the footsteps of heroes.

A seemingly endless traffic jam from there to Amsterdam awaited the intrepid drivers through miserable rain and spray. But the evening brough a welcome opportunity to take the tram into the city and savour its fine architecture, vibrant nightlife and even some well-earned refreshment in one of the many hostelries!
