An excellent opportunity for Attis to inform the British Ports Association infrastructure group of the many advantages of using an independent CDM Principal Designer (PD). This also raised the requirement to procure the PD separately and prior to the design and/then build tender, since the PD will assist the client in defining the initial risks, checking the competency of the tenders (from a CDM perspective) and, according to PD, assisting with the early concept design reviews and the customer statement of requirements.
The current procurement philosophy employed by many businesses seems to miss the whole point of the principal designer, hopefully this will change as people become more aware of the advantages of independence.
